Get Hooked on Fishing meets FNWA

Get Hooked on Fishing on YouTube!

Get Hooked on Fishing uses the buzz of catching fish to engage young people in positive activities and encourage peer mentors to teach others about good fishing practices.

Peer mentors from the Get Hooked On Fishing (GHOF) Liverpool scheme interview staff and young people to find out how GHOF got started and what they enjoy about fishing.
This video features young people explaining good and bad angling practice.

Have a look here as more videos about the project are expected to be uploaded to YouTube.

Get Hooked on Fishing! - First Steps!

The first "Get Hooked on Fishing" (GHOF) project is coming soon to Wales!

Get Hooked on Fishing in Flintshire, developed by Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch, is aiming to emulate the work of the Get Hooked on Fishing Charitable Trust.

The Trust was formed as an umbrella organisation to co-ordinate and support other schemes running in England and Wales (and now Scotland), to develop new initiatives and partnerships and assure quality and standards.

Visit the website for some background to the Trust, and its development through the years.

Allan Ellis, our Youth & Environmental Development Worker, is leading this project.

The First Steps

Over-fishing...?

On the 18th December, 4 officers from Environmental Agency Wales netted one of the Get Hooked on Fishing ponds. They attempted to find big catfish, but none turned up.

Gary Wilkes, from Carillion Facilities Management, one of our sponsors who is going to provide us with all of our health and safety reports.

Gary Wilkes & Allan Ellis

And here is what they found!
The fish, of course, not Allan!

An elusive prey...

But these are only the first steps! The Get Hooked on Fishing section will be updated as progress is made and events happen. So come back soon to discover the latest developments.

In the meantime, if you would like to find out more about the new scheme, become a volunteer or simply take part then please get in touch with Allan:

Eco Y-Factor

Funded March 2008 – March 2009 by Welsh Assembly Government – Local Environmental Quality Improvement Projects scheme supporting:

A Safer, Cleaner, Greener Flintshire.

The quality of our environment affects the quality of all our lives. It affects how we feel about where we live, where we work and where our children play. Happy neighbourhoods are characterised by streets, parks and open spaces that are clean, safe, attractive – areas that local people are proud of and want to spend their time. Tackling failure, such as litter, graffiti, fly-tipping, abandoned cars, dog fouling, the loss of play areas or footpaths, for many people is the top public service priority.

"These schemes would not work without the continued support & enthusiasm of our residents, and we cannot thank them enough"
Nancy Mathews – Executive Member for Waste Strategy & Management – Flintshire County Council

“Quality of our environment affects how people, especially those who are older feel about their community. Well Done Eco Rangers,
keep up the good work”
Darren Wearing - Inspector, Deeside, Flintshire NWP
